MWC W10 1970s Pattern General Service 24 Jewel Automatic Military Watch

Description

SKU Code: W10B/AU/D

MWC has been producing W10 models for decades, but this latest version is a significantly upgraded evolution of the original 1960s–1970s design.

It retains the classic outward appearance while introducing two key modern improvements:

Enhanced Water Resistance – Rated to 100 m (330 ft), bringing it fully up to modern standards. Many other W10-style watches still use acrylic crystals and can only achieve a maximum of 50 m (165 ft) water resistance.

Screw-Down Crown – Reduces the risk of damage or loss if the crown catches on clothing or equipment.

Built for Endurance

These automatic W10 models feature a heavy 316L military-grade stainless steel case with a satin finish. They’re extremely robust, designed to withstand harsh field conditions. The watch includes a sweep second hand, black dial, and luminous markings for excellent legibility.

The watch is powered by a 24-jewel high-performance self-winding NH35A movement with a 41-hour power reserve, and it can also be hand-wound when not worn daily.

Unlike earlier models (and current CWC versions), this watch features a screw caseback for easier servicing — previous versions required crystal removal, which is considerably more difficult for many watchmakers.

A Brief History

The original hand-wound W10 was the direct predecessor to the quartz G10/98 models later used by the armed forces. In 1980, the British MOD planned to fit quartz movements into the W10 case pattern, but at the time quartz movements were too thick to fit. This led military watch manufacturers back to the drawing board — ultimately giving rise to the G10 range.

The final two images in this listing show a government specification sheet from February 1980, requesting tenders for this exact W10 pattern case.
